We recently had a chance to sit down and chat with Texas Real Estate Agent Bethany Nolan.
Q: It’s an honor to speak with you today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Howdy! My heritage is rich in the Greater East Texas area. I began her career as a REALTOR® in real estate in the summer of 2017. As an East Texas native, my professional experience serve my clients in the Greater East Texas area and I am proud to be a ninth generation Texan and a seventh generation Upshur County resident. Currently, I am a Broker Associate at my family’s brokerage Nolan Properties LLC and I cover the East Texas area. Most recently, I was named to the National Association of Realtors 30 Under 30 Class of 2022 – that is part of an intense application and approval process based on transactions, sales volume and community involvement. I graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Communications and Journalism with a minor in Horticulture in 2014 and also graduated from Texas Tech University with a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Communications in 2016. Prior to obtaining my real estate license – I spent two years working for a global public relations firm in Houston focusing on the food, agriculture and business sector. With an extensive background in public relations and marketing, I learned quickly how to employ my knowledge/skills to master market conditions and pricing trends. I focus on educating her clients through social media from Facebook to Instagram to TikTok to guide in the homebuying process.
Q: Why did you decide to follow a career in real estate?
It was always the plan with my family! My father always intended to open up a family brokerage and I intended to join down the road after climbing the corporate ladder for a bit – but it all kind of happened at once. I started and finished my coursework in ~3 days, took my text and moved back to East Texas within a month from working in Public Relations in Houston and then just dove in! The plan was always to have a family business and I came in a little earlier than expected, but hit the ground running. I love that I can combine my love for media and marketing with relationship-building and business. It’s been the best of both world for me!
Q: As a real estate professional, what is one of the challenges you face in the industry? How do you overcome them?
For me personally, it has always been lack of years in the industry. In my region that I sell real estate, we have an abundance of Realtors that have been in the industry for years whereas I’ve been in it for 5 years. I decided to focus on education and knowledge to help give me a leg up because knowledge is POWER! I have multiple designations including the Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR), Seller Representative Specialist (SRS), Accredited Luxury Home Specialist (ALHS) and Commitment to Excellence (C2EX). On top of those, I’ve received my broker’s license in the state of Texas which I consider to be the highest form of continuing education as a Realtor for understanding responsibilities, legalities and seeing the industry as a whole. All of these have helped me overcome my lack in years in the industry and prove to potential clients that I am driven and dedicated.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your day-to-day job?
I love the relationship-building aspect! I am a people person, extrovert and just overall social butterfly. I love that I can help people with one of the largest investments of their life but also can build a trusting relationships or sometimes even friendship along the way.
Q: Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I focus on residential, luxury, farm/ranch or commercial property personally and within our brokerage we do it all! I work with all types of home buyers from first-time home buyers to senior citizens downsizing to families investing in short-term rentals. My business is primarily in the East Texas Area but our brokerage covers East Texas and Austin. We sell Texas!
Q: What career goals do you have for the next five years? What’s next for you?
Expansion! Our main saying at our brokerage is ‘We Sell Texas!’ and well… WE DO! I hope to see us grow into new regions and expand our brand and brokerage throughout Texas and more. Receiving my broker’s license and being in the National Association of Realtor’s 30 Under 30 Class of 2022 were my biggest goals to date for real estate and now that I’ve accomplished both – I’ve been restructuring my goals. I hope to double my production annually (big goals – but you have to set them to get them) and I would love to start coaching or training with regards to social media in real estate as an additional leg off of our real estate business.
Q: What’s a myth about real estate?
It is ALWAYS going to be the 20% rule for me. I have made a huge goal this year to really dive in and educate my clients and potential clients about what it takes to purchase a home and I continually run into the fact that people believe they need 20% downpayment in order to purchase a home. This is not only incorrect but is a big reason why people shy away from event considering the thought of buying. Yes there are advantages of putting 20% down on a home, but not everyone has that capability. I really try to help educate so that people can stop buying into this myth.
